Cavender's Boot City plans a Western-style makeover of a former Party City at Mansell Crossing in Alpharetta. Much of the exterior design has won approval, but the proposed wood-covered columns remain undecided: the Design Review Board's Sept. 18 vote approved elevations and materials while setting the columns aside for another review.

The retailer's application describes an “authentic western destination” created by recladding and repainting the existing building. Its July 21 drawings call for Douglas fir to cover the columns. According to the city's unofficial meeting summary, board discussion included concerns about whether those columns matched the building's architectural character and the possibility of adding a masonry base. The motion approving the other elevations and materials carried 6-0.
